16/06/2008 Successful Course E-learning Delivery to State Government Agency

AVELING is proud to announce the successful delivery the Annual Client and Service Data Collection (ACDC) Flash-based software tutorials for the Western Australia Disabilities Services Commission (DSC).

In January 2008, DSC released the ACDC intranet application throughout Western Australia to streamline the collection and amalgamation of annual client and service data. DSC contracted AVELING to provide eight software tutorials to supplement refresher training in the new system and to provide a method for new employees to learn the system as part of their initial systems training.

Within the project, special attention was given to ensure the system was accessible to those with visual impairments. In conjunction with DSC, the use of colour and placement of elements were analysed to ensure maximum readability to those who have difficulties with colour contrasts. In addition, AVELING developed a feature that allows the user to change the font text so that those with sight difficulties could better read task steps.

When developing the tutorials with DSC, individual tasks were grouped according to business process to present the information in the most logical manner to the user. In addition, each tutorial is designed to cater for users who only want a quick reminder amount to quickly view the text and screenshot summary, while providing the ability for those who would like more information to listen to a voice narration and animation that demonstrates the specific way to perform the task.

A major challenge in the project was to overcome the size and scalability of software screenshot. To overcome this, individual screen elements were re-drawn as vectorised graphic elements. Each element was then re-used to re-build individual screenshots possible. This process resulted in the ability to clearly see the screen elements when resized at 70% of actual size and reduced file size overhead by over 60%.

The project was started in May 2008 and was successfully delivered within six weeks on budget and ahead of schedule.
