AVELING Community Safety Month
Put community safety first
October is Community Safety Month and AVELING is taking positive steps to make Perth and Western Australia a safer place.
AVELING also participates in Safe Work Week from 25-29 October 2010, as community safety is the responsibility of everyone and a basic human right.
The campaign is coordinated by the Injury Control Council of WA (ICCWA) and aims to promote awareness and improve community safety issues affecting the general public.
“Being a good corporate citizen is important to us at AVELING. We want to make a positive impact on the community that will provide real long term benefits to all involved,” said Tony Aveling, the Managing Director at AVELING.
AVELING is one of many organisations joining forces during Community Safety Month WA 2010 to hold an event that promotes safety and injury prevention.
To coincide with this nationwide campaign, AVELING provides a free online Manual Handling program to the general public. Poor manual handling practice is one of the most common causes of disabling injuries in the workplace and at home.
This straight forward and practical one hour program is available to anyone with internet access and promotes the safe planning and performing of manual handling tasks.
Mark King, E-Learning Manager of AVELING, encourages as many young people as possible to go through the program in order to reduce the risk of serious injury, caused by incorrect lifting and moving techniques.
“I invite local companies to incorporate this program in their induction or refresher training. Together, I want us to make Western Australia safe for all who call it home,” says Tony Aveling.
