Portfolio: Disability Services Commission

Client: Disability Services Commission

Project: ACDC Online Tutorials

Overview: The Disability Services Commission (DSC) required six easy to follow tutorials that staff could go through to support their understanding and use of a newly developed reporting system - Annual Client and Service Data Collection (ACDC).

AVELING’s solution gives users two ways of refreshing their knowledge of the system. First, they can go through a series of high-level steps that outlines each process using text and screenshots. This allows learner to quickly refresh their knowledge of a process.

The other option is designed for learners who want a more detailed explanation of a process. It consists of a series of 'Show Me' videos that show each process in full detail. The videos are supported by audio and text.

A unique project requirement was that all files sizes remain as small as possible, because many end-users access the tutorials from remote locations. To meet this need, AVELING recreated and optimised every screenshot. This typically reduced file sizes by about sixty percent, while allowing every image to be completely re-scalable and greatly improving their overall quality.

The course caters to the special requirements of the Disability Services Commission and has adjustable text sizes, audio, and colour contrasts that are designed for people who are colour blind.

ACDC Online Tutorial
This is a sample of the eight tutorials developed for DSC in flash. The colour have all been selected to accommodate those with colour impairment and the text can be increased for those with sight difficulties. Each page is developed to enable the user to quickly scan the task step or to additionally select the “Show Me” button to hear a narration of the text and animation that explains to the user how to perform the particular text. Both the “Show Me” and “Change Text Size” works in the sample provided.
