Project: Responsible Service of Alcohol Online Course

Overview: The Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Online Course is designed to prepare learners for the realities and challenges that they will face as service staff. This highly interactive and engaging course includes three detailed scenarios, in which learners have to deal with difficult customers.

The three hour course is AVELING’s second public course and builds upon the knowledge and feedback we gained from previous projects. At the end of the course, learners are issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment. The course is currently approved in the Australian Capital Territory, Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia.

As with our other courses, learner can complete this course in their own time and at their own pace. The course bookmarks learners’ progress, meaning that when they leave the course and come back to it later, they start from where they were last.

In this activity, learners identify and respond to situations where it is not appropriate to serve alcohol to customers. It helps learners to understand the different types of customers they may encounter and when they should refuse service. We do not track learners results in this activity.

An example of one of the three scenarios that learners must complete. The scenario is designed to be as realistic and believable as possible, to simulate the kinds of situations that learners may encounter in the workplace. Results are not tracked in this activity. Learners are encouraged to explore the different options/resulting outcomes as fully as possible.

The course makes extensive use of audio-visual animations, 2D/3D animations and supporting text to engage learners and effectively convey key learning points.

To enhance the effectiveness of the training programme, learners answer a series of questions in their own words (open-ended questions). All of these answers are reviewed by AVELING’s approved assessor and learners are individually remediated, if necessary.
