Conduct Safety and Health Investigations
Overview
With an ever-increasing emphasis on workplace safety, incident prevention has never been more apparent.
As such, AVELING has developed a course primarily focusing on continuous improvement in workplace health and safety practices.
Our one-day Safety and Health Investigations course has been developed to meet the standard protocols within the incident investigation unit requirements for the mining (also known as S2) and construction industries.
This nationally recognised training course is ideally suited for supervisors and safety reps working in the area of incident investigation, fact finding and process improvement.
Objectives of an investigation team include:
- Establishing the facts
- Identifying contributing factors
- Reviewing existing controls and procedures
- Reporting on findings
- Recommending remedial actions to improve efficiency, reduce risk and prevent reoccurrence.
Intended for
Anyone with Safety and Health obligations specified under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1984 or anyone working within operational roles or on safety committees in the following areas:
- Civil construction
- Coal mining
- Drilling
- Extractive industries
- Metalliferous mining.
Learning Outcomes
- Determine the objectives of an investigation
- Gather information
- Evaluate information
- Identify corrective actions
- Prepare and present investigation reports
Unit of Competency
- RIIOHS301A Conduct safety and health investigations
Certification
On successful completion of an in-class assessment component, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for the Unit of Competency outlined above from the RII09 Training Package.

- Minimum dress standard - neat casual, enclosed footwear and no singlets
