Fire Training (Use Portable Fire Fighting Equipment)
Course Information

This two-hour course provides a uniform level of training to all participants in the safe use of portable fire fighting equipment.

The course meets national standards and is competency based. Participants will be assessed by means of a written exam paper and by their conduct and performance in the practical component of the course.

On successful completion a Statement of Attainment will be issued for “PRMPFES05B Use Portable Fire Fighting Equipment” from the Asset Maintenance Training Package.

Participants who need to demonstrate additional evidence at the end of the course will receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Fire Safety Training Pre-requisites

There are no restrictions on entry to this course, however participants are required to have sufficient numeracy and literacy skills to read and comprehend instruction. If you have special literacy requirements please advise at time of booking.

  • First aid fire fighting
  • Fire behaviour
  • Fire extinguisher classifications and ratings
  • Extinguishing agents
  • Extinguisher types and operation
  • Extinguisher maintenance and servicing.

Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the fire triangle, and major causes of fires in the workplace
  • Identify fires by their class and describe the most appropriate method of extinguishing, and
  • Demonstrate the correct method of operating portable fire extinguishers and fire blankets.
