Overview

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) requires all shore-based personnel involved in the transport of dangerous goods by sea to complete approved mandatory training.

AVELING’s Maritime Dangerous Goods Course is developed by EXIS Technologies with the support of the International Maritime Organisation and is approved by AMSA.

The course will provide the knowledge and skills needed to fulfil the obligations placed on an individual in the workplace, under the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code - 2010 edition.

Mandatory Training Requirements

With the adoption of Amendment 34-08 to the IMDG Code (the 2008 edition) on 1 January 2010 the requirement that shore-based personnel engaged in the transport of dangerous goods "intended to be transported by sea" be provided with appropriate training, became mandatory.

Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Sea Introduction Sheet

Intended for

This course is mandatory for shore-based personnel who are engaged in the transport of dangerous goods "intended to be transported by sea" under Section 1.3.1.2 of the IMDG code.

The people who must receive this training under the IMDG code are those that:

  • Classify dangerous goods and identify Proper Shipping Names of dangerous goods
  • Pack dangerous goods
  • Mark, label or placard dangerous goods
  • Load/unload Cargo Transport Units
  • Prepare transport documents for dangerous goods
  • Offer dangerous goods for transport
  • Accept dangerous goods for transport
  • Handle dangerous goods in transport
  • Prepare dangerous goods loading/stowage plans
  • Load/unload dangerous goods into/from ships
  • Carry dangerous goods in transport
  • Enforce or survey or inspect for compliance with applicable rules and regulations, or
  • Are otherwise involved in the transport of dangerous goods as determined by the competent authority.

Certification

On successful completion of an assessment and obtaining a score of 75% or more, a Certificate of Course Completion will be issued, which can be printed. Give this certificate to your manager or supervisor.
