This is an online course, however there are post-course assessments which require ongoing access to an operational food preparation area and a qualified person to observe you complete food handling tasks – if you do not have access to these, you are advised to find an alternative course that better suits your needs.
In most states and territories, retail food businesses involved in the preparation, distribution, supply and sale of food to the general public must have at least one Food Safety Supervisor at the premises.
This requirement exists to reduce the incidents of foodborne illness in the retail food service sectors and improve food handlers’ skills and knowledge.
This skill set provides learners with the skills and knowledge to work hygienically when handling food and to ensure the safety of food during its storage, preparation, display, service and disposal.
This program enables participants to achieve the SITSS00069– Food Safety Supervision Skill Set, which includes the following two nationally recognised Units of Competency:
SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety
SITXFSA006 Participate in safe food handling practices
Please note: This course requires you to have access to an operational food preparation area, where a supervisor, employer or someone with appropriate food preparation experience will observe and comment on your use of hygienic practices and relevant skills and knowledge while performing a range of food handling tasks. This course is not suitable for those working in NSW as you require the NSW Food Authority Certificate.
This course is delivered via Aveling’s online Learning Management System (LMS). Once you have booked and paid, you will receive a booking confirmation email containing a link to gain access to the system and your course.

The post course assessment requirements may take between 1-2 months for learners to complete the tasks and gather the necessary evidence.
Assessment components (including the logbook and observer report) must be submitted within 6 months of enrolment.

Aveling conducts assurance audits on all learners completing nationally recognised online courses to verify identification and ensure the learner completed the course themselves.

Important: Access to an operational food preparation area and a suitably experienced supervisor is required to complete this course.
In order to complete the Observation Report and Logbook as part of your assessment, you will need access to a permanent or temporary kitchen premises or smaller food preparation or bar area which must include access to all of the following:
An observer such as a supervisor or employer or someone with appropriate food preparation experience will observe and comment on your relevant skills and knowledge as you use hygienic practices while performing a range of food handling tasks. This observer will need to complete the Observations Reports.
The Observation Reports and logbooks must be completed within 6 months of course enrolment.
