Learning Outcomes

The BSB30719 Certificate III in Work Health and Safety consists of 11 Units of Competency, including:

  • BSBWHS307 Apply knowledge of WHS laws in the workplace
  • BSBWHS308 Participate in WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control processes
  • BSBWHS309 Contribute effectively to WHS communication and consultation processes
  • BSBWHS310 Contribute to WHS issue-resolution processes
  • BSBWHS331 Participate in identifying and controlling hazardous chemicals
  • PUAFER001 Identify, prevent and report potential facility emergency situations
  • BSBWHS416 Contribute to workplace incident response
  • BSBCMM211 Apply communication skills
  • BSBSTR301 Contribute to continuous improvement
  • BSBWRT311 Write simple documents

The final Unit of Competency can be achieved via one of the following:

  • BSBWOR404 Develop Work Priorities
    (Please note, BSBWOR404 Develop work priorities has been superseded by BSBPEF402 Develop personal work priorities. This is currently under development at AVELING and will be available soon.)
  •  HLTAID003 Provide First Aid

AVELING’s flexible pathway consists of first undertaking the Safety and Health Representative (SHR) course, and then completing:

  • Assessments, including workplace assignments, third party reports and knowledge questions, and
  • One additional online elective unit (and submission of any relevant assessment material).

Learning and assessment activities involve specific work tasks relevant to the particular workplace. These activities provide a benefit to both the employee and the employer. Participants are able to apply the knowledge as they learn by focusing on practical work examples.

Entry Requirements

It is vital for participants to have access to a workplace to be able to complete tasks in workplace assessments (real or simulated).

In addition, it is expected that learners applying to a Certificate III level course meet the following requirements:

  • Over 18 years of age
  • Minimum of 10 years of schooling or equivalent (eg this could be life experience for someone who left school early)
  • Ability to access and use technology
  • English language proficiency
