AVELING’s Maritime Dangerous Goods Course is developed by Exis Technologies, who worked in collaboration with the International Maritime Organization. The course is approved by AMSA.
The course will provide the knowledge and skills needed to fulfil the obligations placed on an individual in the workplace, under the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code. The courses listed below are compliant to Amendment 38-16 of the IMDG Code. Amendment 38-16 will become mandatory on 1st January 2018 (with Amendment 37 ceasing on that date). Refresher training must be done every 2 years by those who’ve completed initial training.
Mandatory Training Requirements:
Training became mandatory on 1 January 2010 for shore-based personnel engaged in the transport of dangerous goods “intended to be transported by sea”. Persons who’ve previously done initial training must do a refresher course every 2 years.

Dangerous Goods Transport General Awareness Training
Overview: this course provides a familiarisation with dangerous goods transport regulations and an awareness of the duties and requirements that arise from them, under Section 1.3.1.2.1 of the IMDG code.
It is designed for personnel with no specific dangerous goods transport function(s) who need a general appreciation of the regulations. The programme is split into the following sections:
- Course scope and objectives

- Classification and identification
- Consignment and transport procedures
- The journey rules – operational considerations
- Emergency response issues
There is an end-of-course test, the score for which is recorded and included on your course completion certificate.

Dangerous Goods StandardTraining
Overview: this course is aimed at booking office staff, administrators, customer and/or business services support staff. It provides training at a function-specific level for these personnel and others with similar functions requiring a sound working knowledge of the IMDG Code.
