Safe Work Australia CEO Michelle Baxter recently launched Tradies Health Month with the stark message regarding the latest work health and safety statistics.
These statistics show that although tradies make up almost one-third of the Australian workforce they make up over half of the serious claims for workers’ compensation. Another distressing statistic which has been highlighted is that almost 50 tradies a year die from vehicle incidents.
Imagine starting a new job on a construction site but being killed on-site before you could even receive your first pay cheque. This was exactly what happened to Jason Garrels, and his death was preventable.
