Credit Transfer and Exemption

Recognition of learning previously achieved through formal education and training.

What is Credit Transfer

Credit transfer is the recognition of learning achieved through formal education and training. It means you can get credit for Units of Competency (UoCs) you’ve already completed in another course either at Aveling or another RTO.

Qualifications, Records of Results and Statements of Attainment issued by any Registered Training Organisation (RTO) are recognised by all other RTOs. If your completed UoCs match the content and outcomes of the unit in your new course, you won’t need be assessed for that unit again.

How it works

You will fill out a Credit Transfer and Exemption Application Form and provide your certificate, Statement of Attainment, or access to your USI transcript, showing that you have completed the unit.

Aveling will review your application and classify whether the unit is:

  • Identical: the unit code and title match exactly,
  • Superseded and Equivalent: the unit has been replaced but deemed equivalent, or
  • Not Equivalent: the unit is not equivalent to the unit required for the Qualification.

The credit transfer process will only proceed for units classified as Identical or Superseded and Equivalent.

If your unit has been determined as Not Equivalent, you will be advised in writing that credit transfer will not be granted and informed of alternative options.

Aveling’s Credit Transfer Process

  1. Contact Aveling to enquire about credit transfer for previously completed training.

  3. Submit your application which must include:
    • Completed Credit Transfer and Exemption Application Form
    • Copy of your certificates or statement of attainment, or you can provide Aveling with access to your USI transcript
    • Completed Authority to Release Information form.
  4. Aveling will review your application, verify your certificates or Statements of Attainment and determine whether Credit Transfer is applicable.
  5. Aveling will then advise you of the outcome of your application and next steps.

How much does it cost?

No fees will apply for credit transfer.

Things to note

  • You are entitled to apply for credit transfer in a course or qualification in which you are currently enrolled.
  • Credit transfer can be issued when your enrolment includes at least one other unit of competency for which you will be completing the training and assessment.
  • Credit transfer will only be awarded for whole units of competency.
  • Whilst you can apply for credit transfer at any time, Aveling recommends you apply before commencing a course as this may reduce training and assessment and guide you down the most efficient path to completion.
  • You may only apply for credit transfer for units of competency which meet the packaging rules of qualifications or skill sets that are on Aveling’s scope of registration.
  • Credit transfer will be processed and will be reflected in the outcome of the full qualification or skill set once all other requirements have been completed with Aveling.
  • Credit transfer will not be granted for an entire qualification or skill set.
