Aveling engaged local artist Rosie Paine to produce a commissioned artwork that tells the Aveling story through the lens of her indigenous art practice.
Rosie met with the Aveling family to learn about their story and the business, and from that, produced an inspiring design in both digital and painted form which now hangs in our reception.
Amongst the many stories of those who have lived and worked on these lands, our story is influenced by, and intertwined with, others and many important places and journeys.
The trail on the left shows the Aveling family’s story. From humble beginnings through a journey of growth, with the help of others, Aveling has grown and evolved. Passing through various meeting places towards the main home of Aveling located on Beeliar Boodja.
The right side represents the journeys of others who have come from various places, and via different journeys and groups, to join us here. This coming together is focused on developing, nurturing and appreciating everyone who comes through our doors. We strive towards the aspiration of achieving more as a collective for our communities. We believe that we are on this journey along with the many connections and relationships we forge along the way.
We live and work within Whadjuk Noongar Boodja. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of these lands and elders past and present, as well as those from across Australia.
The lines and patterns and colours around the outside of our story represent the acknowledgement of country and an acknowledgement of the land. Our business and our story are built upon this rich history and story of growth, change and connection.
The yellow dots symbolise the sun and the energy that comes from the sun, with pink seeds coming from the ground – seeds of growth. Beyond this is the actual growth – the green of the land, and next to this is the water surrounding everything, because in Perth, every part of the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) has such an important story about the wagyl and what happened in those different places.
“Yuwa/Kaya/Hello,
My name is Rosie Paine and I am the artist behind Rosie Made. I am a Yilka, Wongutha, Noongar and Yamatji artist living on Noongar Country with my wonderful husband and amazing two children (and our mini schnauzer Rocco). I am currently a Deputy Principal at a great primary school in Perth. I love sharing my art, my stories and my culture with others. I also love bringing other people’s stories to life through my art.”
Aveling acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and to Elders past and present.
