Identify, recognise and manage fatigue hazards for flight crew.
Fatigue can have a negative impact on cognitive function, decision-making abilities, and reaction times, which can be dangerous in aviation.
Designed for aviation flight crew, Fatigue Management for Aviation Flight Crew Members provides the knowledge to identify, recognise and manage fatigue hazards.
As a flight crew member, you may have irregular work schedules and long duty periods, which can disrupt your sleep pattern. Traveling across different time zones can disturb up your body’s internal clock, known as the circadian rhythm. The demanding nature of your work, high workload, and even the reduced oxygen levels at high altitudes can contribute to fatigue.
This course will provide you with awareness about the causes of fatigue, aviation-specific risks, sleep mechanics, and how to implement effective management strategies to maintain alertness and performance levels, promoting safety in the aviation industry.
You will learn to recognise fatigue warning signs, the mechanics and benefits of sleep and the various strategies to help manage fatigue, as well as relevant laws and regulations regarding fatigue management in the aviation industry.
In 2019, the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) finalised new fatigue management rules in response to an independent review and industry consultation. This course is aligned to these new rules (Civil Aviation Order (CAO) 48.1 Instrument 2019), which outline the fatigue management strategies that flight crew members and air operators must adhere to.
Ensure a safe and healthy work environment for you and other flight crew members by understanding how fatigue impacts you and others in the aviation industry.
