New Certificate IV TAE on its way!

You may have heard that the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment has been superseded, but what does that mean and what are the implications for your current qualification or course?

As occurs regularly with Nationally Recognised Training Packages, the Training and Education Training Package was reviewed by an industry skills committee, and updated to make sure it reflects the current needs of the industry.

In November 2022, the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment was endorsed by the Australian Industry Skills Committee (AISC).

This replaces the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment which has been the current iteration of the qualification since 2016.

The TAE40116 will be transitioned to the TAE40122 over the next two years until TAE40122 is the only version available from RTOs.

Find out more and explore our TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment FAQs.

If you have any queries or concerns, or would like to be notified when the new TAE40122 qualification is available, contact our team on +61 8 9379 9999 or at training@aveling.com.au.

Tax time training savings!

It’s that time of year again – tax time is coming up fast, and you may be looking to spend that last slice of L&D budget and lock in some training before the end of the financial year.

Well, if you haven’t heard – this year there’s an extra incentive: if you are a small business, you can claim training expenses incurred by June 30 in the next financial year and receive a bonus 20% tax deduction (on top of the existing deduction)!

This means that for every $100 you spend on training, you can get a $120 tax deduction.

This was announced at the 2022-23 Federal Budget announcement in March, as part of the ‘Skills and Training Boost’, and applies to external training courses delivered to employees in Australia or online, by providers registered in Australia – including Aveling.

This makes for a great incentive to continue to upskill your team, and no need to wait until July as you can reap the benefits now.

Book your team’s next course today, or talk to us about your needs: on 08 9379 9999 or at courses@aveling.com.au.

Find out more, including all T&Cs and eligibility on the Australian Government Budget website.

To celebrate KAB week and spread awareness among our staff we have some fun activities planned for next week, including:

Former Aveling learner wins Health and Safety Rep of the year!

Congratulations to former Aveling learner Tony Booth on winning Health and Safety Representative of the year at the DMIRS Work Health and Safety Excellence Awards!

Tony completed his Health and Safety Representative training at Aveling in September last year, and has gone on to make some impactful changes at Cecil Andrews College.

Health and Safety Representatives serve as the link between employee and employer, and a good rep is always looking for things to do better. Tony has exemplified this, implementing a number of new processes across a variety of departments at the school, from concussion testing for students with head injuries, upgrading first aid facilities and equipment, to auditing and reducing the number of chemicals used in cleaning, and even repainting the canteen floor in non-slip paint.

WHS is the core of what we do at Aveling, and our mission is more than just training, it’s to improve health and safety in workplaces across WA. That’s why we’re so happy for Tony, and all of our learners, as they take the knowledge they’ve learned, and do great things back in their workplaces to improve the safety of their team.

Well done to Tony, and all the winners and finalists of the Work Health and Safety Excellence Awards.

Find out more about Tony’s achievement in the booklet from the evening (page 32).

If you or your team is due for Health and Safety Reps training, visit the course webpage or call us to discuss your needs on +61 8 9379 9999.

Aveling supporting the Association for Mental Health in Mining Australia

This World Mental Health Day, Aveling is delighted to share that we have entered a relationship with the Association for Mental Health in Mining (AMHM) Australia, which sees us support important work to improve mental health in the Australian mining industry through advocacy, education and community building.

Launched in 2021 by co-founder Lachie Samuel, AMHM is the first of its kind in the Australian mining sector. The AMHM aims to facilitate and increase the speed of positive change in the industry, specifically through networking events where invited speakers share their approach and solutions, while connecting over the discussions created.

The relationship will see Aveling sponsor events throughout the year, as well as supporting and helping to spread awareness of this important advocacy work and education.

Lachie Samuels, aka The FIFO Mental Health Guy, has become a leading voice in FIFO mental health in Australia, and is ‘on a mission to make mining the healthiest industry, mentally and emotionally, in Australia’. He works with organisations across the mining sector, including Rio Tinto, Fortescue Metals Group, Web Drill and Qube, talking to their people about the importance of mental health, as well as running events and get-togethers to bring those working in the sector together to talk about mental health, build support networks and friendships.

Lachie says of the new relationship with Aveling,

“I’m super excited to have Aveling come on board to help AMHM grow our impact across WA. The people who have pushed for this have such genuine and personal reasons for doing so, which makes it even more meaningful!”

Aveling is well known in the resources sector as a leader in workplace health and safety training, and in recent years has placed a greater emphasis on the importance of mental health, offering a free online course for Mental Health Awareness, and classroom workshops on supporting those in the transition to the FIFO lifestyle.

Lauren Gonzalez, General Manager – Corporate Services at Aveling said of the relationship:

“Lachie has been doing some amazing work across his various ventures, including AMHM, helping a lot of people and making great strides in changing the approach to mental health in the mining sector.

We are proud to support the fantastic work of the AMHM and look forward to working closely with them into the future.”

You can find out more about the Association for Mental Health in Mining Australia on their LinkedIn page, including current projects and services, and upcoming events, including Bowling for Better Mental Health this Friday night.

October is National Safe Work Month!

All of us at Aveling are dedicated to creating a safe workplace for our staff and those who visit our training facility. We are experts in work health and safety and enjoy passing on these skills to our learners and the many organisations we work with.

This October is a great time to step back, be aware and encourage well-being in the workplace. The theme for Safe Work Month 2022 is ‘Know safety, work safely’. If you and your employees and colleagues know the risks, know the law, and know your responsibilities, your workplace will be a far safer place to be.

Check out Safe Work Australia for more information: www.safeworkaustralia.gov.au/national-safe-work-month

In WA, the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety also have some great podcasts and videos lined up throughout the month: www.wa.gov.au/government/safe-work-month
