World Youth Skills Day 2023

World Youth Skills Day takes place on July 15th, 2023. This year’s theme is ‘Skilling teachers, trainers and youth for a transformative future’ highlighting the essential role that teachers, trainers and other educators play in providing skills for youth to transition to the labour market and actively engage in their communities and societies.

The world is changing quickly and the careers of tomorrow will continue evolve, so it is essential that young people are prepared with adaptable skills and a mindset for lifelong learning.

The United Nations (UN) highlights the important role that technical and vocational education and training (VET) plays to meet these demands by “reducing access barriers to the world of work, ensuring that skills gained are relevant, recognized and certified, promoting green skills and practices, and offering skills development opportunities for youth who are not in education, employment and training.”

How can we best empower our youth as an industry? Find out in our latest article.

Celebrating 10 Years in Jandakot!

We are celebrating 10 years since we moved into our purpose-built facility in Jandakot!

Designed by architects Meyer Shircore and Associates, and opened on 23 March, 2013 by Greg Lilleyman, then President – Pilbara Operations, Rio Tinto Iron Ore, our head office and flagship facility is located next to Jandakot airport, just 15 mins from the Perth CBD.

It houses 12 training rooms, 2 boardrooms, a large cafeteria and free parking for 250 vehicles – and it’s put to good use, with 3612 courses run and 20k meals served at our café last year alone!

We have seen a lot of achievements in those 10 years, welcomed thousands of participants through our doors and launched many new programs.

The effect of surrounds on learning and engagement within a classroom is immense, and we often get feedback on how great it is to come to such a modern and inspiring building to learn. The artworks on display also spark many an interesting conversation!

Special thanks to our facilities team who have kept Aveling Jandakot looking as new as the day it opened (with a few improvements over the years!).

If you haven’t been here before, we invite you to come and check it out or find out more about our facilities on our website.

Improve your conflict resolution skills

Can conflict at work be good?

A lot of time and energy is spent trying to prevent conflict at work but it can’t always be avoided, and it doesn’t have to be a bad thing if handled correctly.

Resolving conflict successfully can mean that many of the problems that brought it to the surface are solved, often delivering unexpected benefits.

If resolved effectively, conflict can also lead to personal and professional growth.

However, it takes an understanding of people, and strong conflict resolution skills to manage the process well.

Are you currently challenged by a conflict at work?

Learn how to respond to conflict appropriately and effectively in Aveling’s upcoming one day workshop:

New Certificate IV TAE on its way!

You may have heard that the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment has been superseded, but what does that mean and what are the implications for your current qualification or course?

As occurs regularly with Nationally Recognised Training Packages, the Training and Education Training Package was reviewed by an industry skills committee, and updated to make sure it reflects the current needs of the industry.

In November 2022, the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment was endorsed by the Australian Industry Skills Committee (AISC).

This replaces the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment which has been the current iteration of the qualification since 2016.

The TAE40116 will be transitioned to the TAE40122 over the next two years until TAE40122 is the only version available from RTOs.

Find out more and explore our TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment FAQs.

If you have any queries or concerns, or would like to be notified when the new TAE40122 qualification is available, contact our team on +61 8 9379 9999 or at [email protected].

Tax time training savings!

It’s that time of year again – tax time is coming up fast, and you may be looking to spend that last slice of L&D budget and lock in some training before the end of the financial year.

Well, if you haven’t heard – this year there’s an extra incentive: if you are a small business, you can claim training expenses incurred by June 30 in the next financial year and receive a bonus 20% tax deduction (on top of the existing deduction)!

This means that for every $100 you spend on training, you can get a $120 tax deduction.

This was announced at the 2022-23 Federal Budget announcement in March, as part of the ‘Skills and Training Boost’, and applies to external training courses delivered to employees in Australia or online, by providers registered in Australia – including Aveling.

This makes for a great incentive to continue to upskill your team, and no need to wait until July as you can reap the benefits now.

Book your team’s next course today, or talk to us about your needs: on 08 9379 9999 or at [email protected].
