RU OK?

RU OK? Day 2021

The saying ‘we’re all in the same storm, but not in the same boat’ has never been truer. You don’t always know what’s going on under the surface, even for the people we are closest to.

This RUOK? Day, it is more important than ever to ask the question “Are you ok?”

It could be over a coffee break, while driving, a phone call, over text or taking a walk – make a moment meaningful and ask them how they’re really going.
Visit www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask for some tips on how to ask, and follow through with the conversation.

Calling all international students!

International students can now take RSA, White Card at Aveling!

Recent changes to the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS Act) mean that we are now able to offer some courses to international student visa holders, without requiring CRICOS registration.

This means you can:

> take an exempted short course in addition to your full-time main course of study without jeopardising your attendance or progress visa requirements.

> pursue personal interests while studying to enhance the quality of your Australian experience; or

> undertake training that may be required ahead of a workplace component for your main course of study, or for employment (consistent with your student visa requirements).

———

Aveling is able to offer the following courses to international students already on a student visa:

Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Course (SITHFAB002 Provide responsible service of alcohol)

White Card Construction Training Course (CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry)

———-

*Please note – these courses would be in addition to your full-time main course of study – you will not be able to apply for a student visa based on these courses alone.

Local legend features in AVELING cafe

You might have seen a new addition to our cafe sports memorabilia recently.

Daniel Ricciardo’s racing suit from his time in the Red Bull Racing Team now graces our walls, joining a number of other WA and Australian sporting memorabilia.

It’s a popular feature of our Jandakot facility, and sparks a lot of conversation during morning tea and lunch breaks.

We love to support our local legends – come and check out the collection and let us know what team we’re missing!

Unity, acceptance, and a little bit of fun!

table of love - gillie and mark

There was a lot of buzz this week as some new residents moved into AVELING Café. The ‘Table of Love’ is a bronze piece by artists Gillie and Marc as part of a global campaign that aims to promote love and peace.

Based around hybrid characters named Dogman and Rabbitgirl, these unlikely animal-kingdom companions, together symbolize unity and acceptance – representing all people as one.

As per Gillie and Marc’s website, “Now more than ever is the time for people of all races, religions and beliefs to come together. Rabbitgirl and Dogman invite the world to sit with them symbolically at their Table of Love and take the first step to understanding and [respecting] each other.”

CEO Tony Aveling was happy to receive the sculpture as it was moved into its new home on Thursday morning, saying “It’s great to have such a magnificent talking piece in the building. It’s something to bring people together as they discuss the ideas and creativity sparked when you see such an interesting sight during a break from training. It’s also just a bit of fun!

We invite you to sit down, discuss and share this message the next time you visit AVELING.

AVELING Café helps Cockburn create energy from food waste

food recycling box

AVELING Café has been taking part in the City of Cockburn’s commercial food waste trial aiming to determine sustainability and environmental benefits for a potential future environmental service.

Our contribution has helped to divert over 15 tonnes of food waste from landfill. This means more than 28,000 kg of greenhouse gas emissions have been captured to generate electricity, rather than being released into the atmosphere and harming the environment.

The trial is a partnership between the City of Cockburn and Richgro, and has been made possible with an $18,257 State Government Community and Industry Engagement grant. The food waste is being delivered for processing in Richgro’s anaerobic digestion plant in Jandakot to help produce high-quality biofertiliser and electricity (via methane capture) to go back into the electricity grid.

Jayson Aveling, Director of Operations at AVELING, says ‘We are always looking for ways to reduce waste and help the environment, so we were very happy to take part in this exciting new project by Cockburn City Council. We are proud to have contributed to reducing a significant amount of waste going to landfill and look forward to continuing to participate in the pilot trial.

The trial was originally planned to end in November, however it will now continue until early 2021.

The City of Cockburn are looking for more participants to take part in the trial. Find out more and apply on the Cockburn City website.
